I work collaboratively with patients on a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues in a comfortable and supportive environment. I help clients recognize and adapt thinking and behavior patterns that get in the way of becoming who they would like to be. For the majority of my patients, I provide both individual psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, but I also provide medication evaluation and management for some clients who see other psychotherapists regularly for individual therapy, and others who take medication but are not also in individual psychotherapy. I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each patient's individual needs and goals.
I understand how important it is to find the right provider(s) to assist you on the journey toward a healthier you, which is why I do not accept clients for treatment until after we meet one to four times for an in person psychiatric evaluation. I would be happy to speak with you by phone, free of charge, about what you are looking for in a therapist and/or a psychiatrist, and what your goals are for treatment are before you decide whether to schedule an appointment. Sometimes it is clear from the start that one of my colleagues is better suited to help a someone than I, and I may recommend that you contact another provider at that point. However, if it sounds from your initial description like my strengths in psychotherapy and/or psychopharmacology may fit your needs, we can schedule an initial evaluation appointment. I meet with patients to complete an evaluation before making treatment recommendations or starting treatment.
At the end of an evaluation, I share my impressions, and provide recommendations for treatment. If I believe I can help you overcome your setbacks and symptoms, or attain your treatment objectives, I may recommend that we move to the next phase together: treatment. Treatment can include medications, psychotherapy, or both. If during our initial meeting(s) you discover that my style, approach, techniques, skills, personality, price, hours, services, gender, or anything else are not what you are looking for, I encourage you to share this with me. I can usually help you make the next step on your journey toward a healthier you, even if that just means helping you connect with another provider who feels to you like a better fit. If you are able to share openly and honestly during your evaluation session(s), you may be surprised how much you can learn about your options for healing. Sometimes, when faced with the prospect of the hard work it would take to break free of whatever brought a patient to see a psychiatrist, the patient decides not to engage in treatment. Many people gain a greater sense of well being just from knowing help is available if and when they are ready for it.
